SASSA Decline Reason: 'Age Outside Range' — What It Means & Which Grant to Apply For
Your age does not meet the SRD grant requirement of 18–59. Learn which grant you qualify for based on your age.
What This Decline Reason Means
The SRD grant is only available to applicants aged 18 to 59 (inclusive). If you are under 18 or over 59, your application will be declined with this reason. This is a hard requirement with no exceptions.
Common Triggers
You are under 18 — the SRD grant requires applicants to be 18 or older
You are 60 or older — you qualify for the Old Age Grant instead
Your date of birth was entered incorrectly on the application form
How to Fix It
If you are under 18
You cannot receive the SRD grant. However, a parent or guardian may qualify for the Child Support Grant on your behalf.
If you are 60 or older
Apply for the Old Age Grant (R2,400/month) at your nearest SASSA office. It pays much more than the SRD.
If your age is incorrect on the application
The SRD portal does not allow you to change your date of birth. You must appeal explaining the error and provide your ID document as proof.
Appeal Deadline
90 days from the date of decline
Success Rate
High if you are appealing because the date of birth was entered incorrectly. If you genuinely do not meet the age requirement, apply for the correct grant type.
