SASSA Online Application 2026

The official SASSA online application route depends on the grant:

• SRD R370: apply at srd.sassa.gov.za. This is the only online route for SRD.
• Older Persons, Disability, Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency, Grant-in-Aid and War Veterans: start at services.sassa.gov.za, the SASSA Services Portal.

Applications are free. You will need your 13-digit ID, proof of income (or an affidavit), proof of residence, and a bank account in your name. Some grants also need medical reports or court orders. You may still be asked to visit a SASSA office to submit original documents or complete a biometric check.

Do not use a paid agent. No one can “speed up” a SASSA application. If a website asks for payment to apply, it is not SASSA.

• SRD R370 grant — for unemployed South Africans aged 18–59 with income below R624/month. Applied for online only.
• Older Persons (Old Age) Grant — for citizens aged 60+ who pass the means test. Pays R2,400/month (under 75) or R2,420 (75+).
• Disability Grant — for adults aged 18–59 with a medical disability preventing employment. Pays R2,400/month.
• Child Support Grant — for primary caregivers of children under 18. Pays R580/month per child.
• Foster Child Grant — for foster parents with a children's court order. Pays R1,300/month.
• Care Dependency Grant — for caregivers of children with severe disabilities. Pays R2,400/month.
• Grant-in-Aid — a R580/month top-up for Old Age or Disability recipients who need full-time care.
• War Veterans Grant — for WWII or Korean War veterans. Pays R2,420/month.

• Your 13-digit South African ID — green ID book, smart ID card, or temporary ID certificate. Refugees and asylum seekers need their permit.
• Proof of income — payslips, pension slips, or bank statements for the last 3 months. If you have no income, bring an affidavit.
• Proof of residence — utility bill or affidavit confirming your address.
• Proof of marital status — marriage certificate, divorce decree, or spousal death certificate if applicable (for means-tested grants).
• A valid bank account in your name — for grant payments, or collect via Postbank/retail.
• Grant-specific documents — medical assessment reports for Disability/Care Dependency, a children's court order for Foster Child, or proof of military service for the War Veterans Grant.

• SRD grant: go to srd.sassa.gov.za, enter your 13-digit ID number and mobile number, provide banking details, and submit. The Moya App also routes SRD applications into the same system.
• Permanent grants: go to services.sassa.gov.za, the official SASSA Services Portal. Register an account, log in, and complete the online application for the Older Persons, Disability, Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency, Grant-in-Aid, or War Veterans Grant. You will be guided through the steps and may need to upload supporting documents.

1. Take a queue ticket for the application counter.
2. Tell the officer which grant you are applying for.
3. Complete the application form with their help — check that every detail matches your ID.
4. Submit your documents and receive a receipt with a reference number.

• Processing time: SASSA aims to process most grant applications within 30 to 90 days. The SRD grant is assessed on a monthly cycle, with status updates typically available after the 15th of each month.
• Means test: SASSA will verify your income and assets against the threshold for your grant. For the SRD, bank accounts are checked for monthly deposits over R624.
• Possible assessments: For the Disability and Care Dependency Grants, a state medical assessment is required. A SASSA official may also visit your home for Grant-in-Aid or Foster Child verification.
