Step-by-Step Instructions
1
Why was my grant suspended?
A grant can be suspended for several reasons, including:

A change in your financial circumstances.

Failure to collect the grant for three consecutive months.

You were admitted to a state institution for more than three months.

You are no longer eligible for the grant.

Pro Tip
- SASSA should send you a letter explaining why your grant was suspended.
- You can also check your status online or by calling the SASSA helpline.
2
How to apply for restoration
To have your grant reinstated, you must apply for restoration within 90 days of the suspension. You will need to visit your nearest SASSA office and bring the following documents:

Your 13-digit bar-coded ID.

Proof of your current address.

Any documents that prove you are still eligible for the grant (e.g., a recent payslip, a doctor's letter).

Pro Tip
- There is no fee to apply for restoration.
- If you are too sick to visit a SASSA office, you can have someone apply on your behalf.

What happens next?
SASSA will review your application for restoration. If your application is successful, your grant will be reinstated and you will receive back payments from the date it was suspended. If your application is denied, you have the right to appeal the decision.
Pro Tip
- The restoration process can take up to three months.
- Keep your receipt as proof of your application.
