SASSA Decline Reason: 'NSFAS Registered' — What It Means & How to Fix
SASSA found that you are registered with NSFAS for student funding. Learn how to prove you are no longer a student and get your SRD grant approved.
What This Decline Reason Means
SASSA checks your ID number against the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) database. If you appear as an active NSFAS beneficiary, your SRD application is declined. This often happens to students who graduated or dropped out but were never removed from the NSFAS system.
Common Triggers
You graduated but the university did not update your status with NSFAS
You dropped out of your studies but NSFAS still shows you as active
You applied for NSFAS but never received funding
There is a data error linking your ID number to another student's NSFAS record
How to Fix It
Contact your university's financial aid office
Request a formal clearance letter confirming you are no longer registered as a student or receiving NSFAS funding.
Submit clearance with your appeal
On the ITSAA portal, upload your NSFAS clearance letter or proof that you are not currently funded.
Appeal with explanation
Explain clearly: 'I graduated in [year] and am no longer a student. I am not receiving any NSFAS funding.'
Appeal Deadline
90 days from the date of decline
Success Rate
Very high with a proper clearance letter from the university financial aid office.
