SASSA Decline Reason: 'UIF Registered' — What It Means & How to Fix
SASSA found that you are registered with the Unemployment Insurance Fund. Learn why this blocks your SRD grant and how to resolve it.
What This Decline Reason Means
SASSA's system cross-checks your ID number against the Department of Employment and Labour's UIF database. If you appear as an active UIF contributor or recipient, your SRD application is declined. This happens even if you are not currently receiving UIF payments — simply being registered on the UIF system can trigger the decline.
Common Triggers
Your previous employer did not deregister you from UIF when you left
You applied for and received UIF payments during the SRD assessment period
Your employer is still contributing to UIF on your behalf without your knowledge
There is an old UIF claim on your ID number from a previous job
How to Fix It
Check your UIF status
Contact the Department of Employment and Labour to check if your UIF record is still active. You can visit your nearest Labour Centre.
Request UIF deregistration
Ask your previous employer to deregister you from UIF. If they refuse or cannot be contacted, the Labour Centre can assist.
Appeal with proof
Submit an appeal on the ITSAA portal. Include a letter from the Labour Centre confirming you are not receiving UIF benefits.
Appeal Deadline
90 days from the date of decline
Success Rate
High if you provide a UIF deregistration letter or confirmation that you are not receiving payments.
