Guide: How to Resolve SASSA 'Bank Account Verification Failed' Errors

As SASSA tightens its security measures in 2026, many beneficiaries are seeing the dreaded 'Bank Account Verification Failed' status on their applications. This error prevents your SRD R370 grant from being deposited, even if your application is approved.

Why Verification Fails

The verification process is now automated. Mismatches occur when:

  1. The names on the SASSA application do not perfectly match the names on the bank account.
  2. The ID number registered at the bank is different from the ID on the grant application.
  3. The account is a 'restricted' or 'dormant' account.
  4. You are using a mobile money account that is not fully FICA-compliant.

Step-by-Step Fix

Follow these steps to update and verify your details:

  • Step 1: Log in to the SRD website.
  • Step 2: Navigate to 'Update Banking Details'.
  • Step 3: Enter your personal bank account details (Bank Name, Account Number, Branch Code).
  • Step 4: Submit. SASSA will send an SMS to your registered number to confirm the change.

Important Warning

SASSA will never ask for your Bank PIN or Password. Do not share your login details with anyone claiming to be a SASSA official on social media or WhatsApp.
