Postbank Black Card Migration: Free Card Replacement Deadline 31 August 2026
Your SASSA Gold Card will stop working after 31 August 2026. You must migrate to the Postbank Black Card to continue accessing your grant funds. This is the single most important action for all SASSA beneficiaries this August.
Key Dates
| Event | Date | |---|---| | SASSA Gold Card stops working | 31 August 2026 | | Free Postbank Black Card replacement available now | Until 31 August 2026 | | After deadline | You must pay for a replacement card |
How to Get Your Free Black Card
-
Go to any Postbank service point located inside:
- Shoprite
- Checkers
- Usave
- Pick n Pay
- Boxer
- Spar
-
Bring your valid South African ID (smart ID card or green ID book). A temporary ID is also accepted.
-
The replacement is FREE. If anyone demands payment, it is a scam.
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
After 31 August 2026:
- Your SASSA Gold Card will be blocked and cannot be used at ATMs or retail points
- You will still be able to collect your grant by presenting your ID at a SASSA pay point
- You will need to pay for a replacement card — avoid this by migrating before the deadline
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my grant payments stop if I don't migrate?
No. Your grant will still be paid into your Postbank account. But you won't be able to access the money using your Gold Card. You will need to collect in person with your ID.
Do I need to change my banking details?
No. The Postbank Black Card is linked to the same account as your SASSA Gold Card. Your banking details with SASSA do not change.
What if I can't get to a Postbank service point?
Contact Postbank at 0800 53 54 55 to arrange an alternative. SASSA mobile units can also assist in rural areas.
