SASSA Decline Reason: 'Duplicate Application' — What It Means & How to Fix
SASSA found more than one application linked to your ID number. Learn why duplicates happen and how to get the correct one processed.
What This Decline Reason Means
SASSA's system found more than one active or recent application linked to your ID number. This causes a decline because the system cannot determine which application is valid. Duplicates usually happen when you reapply before the previous application was closed, or when a family member or a copy of your ID was used to apply again. You only need one application on file.
Common Triggers
You submitted more than one application in a short period
You reapplied while an earlier application was still in the system
Someone else used your ID number to apply for a grant
A data error created a duplicate record
How to Fix It
Do not submit more applications
Submitting additional applications will only create more duplicates. Stop applying and let one process.
Contact SASSA to consolidate
Call the SASSA helpline on 0800 60 10 11 and ask them to identify and remove the duplicate application.
Appeal if needed
If the decline persists, lodge an appeal on the ITSAA portal explaining that only one application is valid.
Appeal Deadline
90 days from the date of decline
Appeal Guidance
Duplicates can usually be resolved by contacting SASSA to keep only one application. Fraudulent duplicates should be reported.
