SASSA Status: 'Approved' — What It Means & When You Will Be Paid

'Approved' means your SASSA application was successful. Learn what happens next, when to expect payment, and how to check for your 'Pay Day' date.

What This Status Means

'Approved' is the status every applicant wants to see. It means SASSA has verified your information and you qualify for the grant. Your application has passed all the checks — identity verification, means test, bank verification, and cross-referencing with other government databases. However, 'Approved' does not mean the money is in your account yet. You still need to wait for a 'Pay Day' date to be assigned, which indicates when payment will be processed.

Why It Happens

  • You met all eligibility criteria for the grant

  • Your identity was successfully verified with Home Affairs

  • Your income was below the threshold

  • Your banking details are valid and verified

What To Do

1

Check for a 'Pay Day' Date

Log into the SRD portal and look for a 'Pay Day' date next to your approved status.

2

Wait for Payment Processing

Once a Pay Day date is assigned, it takes 1 to 2 business days for the money to reflect in your account.

3

Do Not Close Your Bank Account

Keep your bank account active. Closing it after receiving 'Approved' will delay your payment.

4

Check Payment Method

Confirm whether payment will be made to your bank account, Postbank, or retail collection point.

How Long It Takes

After 'Approved', a Pay Day date is usually assigned within 1 to 7 days. Payment takes 1 to 2 business days after the Pay Day date.
