What This Status Means

'Under Review' means SASSA is actively re-examining your application before making a final decision. This is similar to 'Referred' but is often shown when your application has already been provisionally assessed and is being double-checked — for example after an appeal, a banking detail change, or a data mismatch. It is not a decline, and it is not a cancellation. It simply means your file is being checked again by the system or by a SASSA official before a Pay Day is assigned or a decision is confirmed.

Why It Happens

  • Your application was flagged for a second check after a banking detail change or status update

  • You recently lodged an appeal and SASSA is re-evaluating your case

  • A data mismatch between your application and a government database triggered a manual review

  • Your grant is being verified for the new month's payment cycle

What To Do

1

Wait for the Review to Complete

There is nothing you can do to speed up the review. Most reviews complete within 2 to 4 weeks.

2

Do Not Reapply

Reapplying while your application is under review creates duplicate records and can delay the process.

3

Check Your Status After the 15th

Statuses are most reliably updated after the middle of the month. Check back then before taking action.

4

Contact SASSA After 30 Days

If the status stays Under Review for more than 30 days, call the SASSA helpline on 0800 60 10 11.

How Long It Takes
