SASSA Confirms September 2026 SRD Payment Dates: 23 & 25 September

SASSA has confirmed the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 payment dates for September 2026: Wednesday, 23 September and Friday, 25 September. The SRD programme has also been extended until 31 March 2027.

These are the batch dates SASSA will use to release September SRD payments. You are paid once, on your personal "Pay Day" date, which will fall on either 23 or 25 September depending on when your application is processed. You are not paid on both dates.

The September 2026 permanent grant dates remain unchanged: Older Persons on Wednesday, 2 September, Disability on Thursday, 3 September, and Children's Grants on Friday, 4 September (see the September 2026 payment update). The fourth payment day for grants under review has not yet been confirmed.

SRD Programme Extended Until 31 March 2027

SASSA has confirmed that the SRD programme has been extended until 31 March 2027. The grant amount will remain R370 for now. This confirms the funding already set out in the 2026 National Budget. Decisions about the programme beyond March 2027 will be announced by the Minister of Finance and the Department of Social Development.

What This Means for You

• Check your status on the official SRD portal - your personal "Pay Day" date tells you which batch you are in (23 or 25 September).
• If your status shows "Approved" but no "Pay Day" yet, this is normal early in the month. The payment date appears once the September batch is released.
• The fourth payment day for grants under review is separate from the SRD dates and has not yet been confirmed.

Always verify your grant status before heading out to collect. Use the SRD portal for SRD grants or assisted registration at a SASSA office. Only collect once you receive the payment SMS.
