SASSA Decline Reason: 'Bank Details Invalid' — What It Means & How to Fix
SASSA declined your application because your banking details could not be verified. Learn how to update and verify your bank account so your grant is not blocked.
What This Decline Reason Means
SASSA could not verify the bank account details you provided during your application or payment setup. This is not an eligibility decline — it means the payment cannot be processed until your banking information is correct and verifiable. The account holder name must match your ID, the account must be active, and the details must be in the correct format.
Common Triggers
The account holder name you entered does not match your ID document
The bank account is closed, frozen, or deactivated
You entered an incorrect account number or branch code
The account is not linked to your ID number
You used a business or third-party account for your grant
How to Fix It
Log into the SRD portal
Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and log in with your ID number and registered phone number.
Update your banking details
Enter your full bank name, account number, branch code, and holder name exactly as on your ID.
Use a personal account
Use a bank account registered in your own name, linked to your ID. Third-party or business accounts cannot be used.
Submit and wait for verification
After submitting, verification usually takes 3 to 7 working days. Check your status after that.
Appeal Deadline
90 days from the date of decline
Appeal Guidance
Fix your banking details on the SRD portal and verification is usually completed within a week. This is one of the easiest declines to resolve.
